November 4th is still along time down the road, but if John McCain is measuring for drapes in the Oval Office at that time we will all be able to look at his pick of Sarah Palin as the day he sealed the deal.

For months hard-core conservitives have talked with me on the radio or via email and they have been conflicted.  McCain is sometimes with us, but other times against us.  At points it seems as though he is intenionally spitting in our collective eye.  We certainly don't want Obama, but is McCain all that much better?  While Obama has been able to harnass energy among his core and even some from new voters, the McCain campaign was looking as sleepy as Bob Dole's.  People actively engaged in GOP politics just weren't feeling it.  Then Sarah Palin walked on stage with McCain in Dayton.

Immediately my email box was jammed and my cell phone started ringing.  Conservatives were cheering.  Some had tears in their eyes just hours after mocking the Obama loyalists for doing the same thing.  With the pick of Sarah Palin, John McCain has energized his base in a way that he could not have done with any other candidate.  Romney?  Pawlenty?  Huckabee?  Meg Whitman?  Only Palin with her history and life experience could have generated this much excitement from the conservative base.

It's as though Karl Rove sat down with pen and paper and sketched out the perfect conservative nominee....

  • A hunter with a lifetime membership in the NRA.
  • Regularly attends church.
  • Fought corruption even within her own party.
  • Knew her son would have Down Syndrome and still chose life.
  • Has a son who is headed to Iraq, but still supports the war.
  • Has more executive experience than Obama and Biden combined.
  • Sold the governor's state plane because it's a waste of tax dollars.
  • Her husband is a union laborer.
  • Wants to drill in ANWR.
  • Oh yeah, she's a woman!

The more I think about her pick the more I realize she may have been the only person in the whole country who could give John McCain a solid chance to win.

The day true hope returned
As the tears welled in my own eyes, brought forth by Senator Obama's overly crafted ad campaign(bandaid commercials always tug at my heartstrings), I was overwhelmed by the emotion of sensing so much momentum shifting to the dark side. That so many could be swayed by something so slick, I knew they would be waiting in lines on Friday morning to get some. I was on the verge of losing all hope. Then hope returned. Truth, Justice and the American Way prevails again, and the future continues to be bright.

I was a nose holder
who was seriously going to consider trying Ann Coulter's technique of 'get drunk and vote for McCain'. But, with the nominating of Sarah Palin, I will be voting enthusiastically. She is a true conservative, and with a lot of prayer from the public, and some down to earth logic from her, MAYBE we can knock the stupid global warming crap out of McCain's vocabulary.

I was also pretty down Thursday night
...not just because Obamassiah was speechafying to 80,000 people, and they were lapping it up, but also because I was convinced that Tim Pawlenty of MN was going to be the VP pick. YAWN.

Then I woke up Friday morning, logged on, and the rumors were flying on here, on redstate, on politico, on Drudge -- that a plane flew to Anchorage, AK Thursday night, and landed in Dayton, OH. Who else could it be?..there would have been NO REASON for a private jet to fly from Anchorage to Dayton, except that it was Sarah Palin -- the ONE person, who in the last three weeks, I had been pushing on here, to be the VP pick. I had goosebumps on my arms with anticipation and excitement, and I turned on FOX news. They confirmed it. A new day is dawning for the USA. The split between the "Mittens" and the Huckabites has been healed with this pick of Governor Palin. She works for ALL Conservatives. I watched her speech on FOX and was filled with enthusiasm for the FIRST time, since Mitt Romney bowed out of the 2008 race.

He won the election - for Obama
Every single news outlet is saying McCain did this strictly for political purposes: the vagina vote.

I think Palin is a great conservative, and has a bright political future. But she is NOT ready to be the Commander in Chief of the most powerful country and army in the ENTIRE WORLD. A VP has to be that type of person.

Seriously, this is just going to come up as "bad judgment" by the talking bobbleheads on the TV networks. He also now can't use his most effective tactic on Obamassiah: lack of experience.

This was a way to steal the headlines, and rile up us conservatives. But in thoughtful analysis, this was a really bad move, and he just gave away the election.

Maybe she'll bow out after with the scandal going on in Alaska and this was all a ploy just to steal the headlines, show McCain cares about women's rights, and then go on to pick a more prepared candidate. In which case: brilliant.

In my humble opinion.

I can't express my excitement at the news that McCain had chosen Sarah Palin. NOTHING could make me vote for Obama, but I, too, thought I'd have to hold my nose and vote for McCain. Then he made this brilliant choice, and I am excited and energized and looking forward to kicking Obama's butt in November!!!

Unlike Obama
Unlike Obama, Palin brings truth and sincerity to the political arena. Unlike Obama, she doesn't have a former terrorist, anti christ Pastor who he sat under for 20 years, or a demon possessed father Flagger with grand illusions that Louis Farakhan is his brother while the rest of us real Christians can go to hell, if we don't hold his viewpoints on the Muslim who was taken into a space ship. I write this because it is exactly what Mrs. Palin DOES NOT BRING TO THE TABLE, there is no smell of Chicago corruption here, no shady real estate deals. Without a doubt Mrs. Palin has put McCain over the top, she doesn't mince words and she is a mover and a shaker and someone the common woman, be it democrat or republican can admire and look up to as an example of what a woman can accomplish personally and professionally, without all the D.C. connections.

I cannot and will not vote
For this ticket. The bigots won. Mrs. Palin, who may be pretty, is not i by not means the sharpets pencil in the deck. Why? Well, she may not have chosen abortion, but she certainly did not choose MOTHERHOOD.

Mine and my family's vote has been lost. McCain just proved to me he's not a maverick, but a WIMP who falls with the Evangalical Talibans threats.

Loser ticket, all the way. Polls show it is.

Idiot McCain. I hope he goes down in flames.

But his appointment bodes well for his future Supreme appointments. Hope he carries through.

I've been posting anti-McCain screeds for months, but he got me today. Wish the ticket was reversed, but that's the same as 8 years ago. Anyway, assuming he doesn't announce that he's going to implement Ted Kennedy's agenda in sympathy for his brain cancer, or some other "reach across the aisle to get my hand cut off" nonsense, McCain has my vote in November.

Never thought I'd write that, but Obama's fascist techniques of suing to get ads yanked off the air and intimidating radio stations have a lot to do with it as well.

Get Real Bob
Wow - what a comment about the vagina vote!!!

All candidates running for President will pick a running mate who a) matches their core beliefs; b) will help undecided voters look at them closely and c) win the election.

Barack Obama does not have the experience to be #1 on the ticket. Sarah Palin at #2 has more experience than the #1 on the dems side. Sarah Palin is a real go-getter. SHe has taken on the "old guys" in her own party to fight corruption, pork barrel spending, etc. She sold the governor's jet as it was a waste of taxpayers money. What did BO do? He redid his jet to the tune of 500K and put his homely little new presidential seal on it.

If the dems did their real research for a candidate instead of trying to sew up another constituency - they might have a better fighting chance.

Right, you are. This an ongoing concern for me, and my cohorts here on the threads have been calling me a "concern troll" for saying it, but we will regret this nomination in the end.

And you said it in the perfect, alarming context: Palin may be against abortion, but she is not for motherhood. Not with an infant with special needs and small children still in her nest of care. By all indication, both Palin and her husband are ambitious, and tells me she will have to co-opt her family out to a nanny.

While I'd expect this from an Elitist in either Party, I would hope that the McCain ticket would counter his multiple houses attacks with sound judgement. It makes me think that Senator McCain just didn't care enough to think about the newborn Down's Syndrome baby either, and THAT is what troubles me most.

The honorable Mrs Palin
Governor Palin is a good choice for folks who believe in identity politics, i.e., liberals. She's a great lady, good conservative, but a bad choice if we are thinking of the welfare of our nation in this dangerous world, beyond January 2009. I suppose this is what happens when election campaigns are run by the entertainment industry. In the ensuing weeks before the election, once the confetti has been swept up and the noisemakers have been packed away, conservatives will experience mounumental buyer's remorse with John McCain's VP choice.

If she comes off presidential this weekend and in the debates then her one big negative (inexperience) will be taken down. If she is just all platitudes and no substance, then she will simply be compared to Obama. No huge risk here for McCain, with a good chance of a large upside.

I REPENT
I was not going to vote in this election but putting Palin on the ticket has changed my mind. She is the only person running who I would trust to be president. For those who say she is not a good mother, HOW DARE YOU!!!
She has a supportive husband and family and she gave this child life knowing that he would be disabled.

As for experience, she is the only person who has any. Senators do nothing but vote. That is why so few have ever been President. Margaret Thatcher had hardly any political experience. After Reagan, no one stood up to the Soviets with more conviction than she did.

My only regret is that Palin is not at the top of the ticket.

I completely sympathize with your view. McCain's unacceptable view on immigration is outrageous. It enrages me just to think about it. Until recently, I had refused to vote for him and was going to vote third-party.

However, what's the solution? We can let Obama get elected. He'll still open the floodgates for illegals. We could then say it's all his fault for doing it, but that's a pyrric victory at best.

With McCain, we'll probably get the same thing. There's the astronomically small chance that we can keep him from doing it, but it is a chance. No, I know he isn't listening. But a president Obama has no chance of listening.

The immigration issue was more or less lost when we got down to two major party candidates. The selection of Sarah Palin electrifies the base and any possible election of a third party person who agrees with us on this issue is gone. Gone.

There are other issues on the table that matter in this election too. Now we have to look at those other issues and decide who's best to lead the country.

I can't throw away those other issues just because McCain is wrong on immigration.

Giving the child life is one thing - and I, as do I hope most people, admire and applaud her and her husband for carrying on with the birth even though they knew the child would be handicapped. A very brave thing to do - but she isn't the first and certainly isn't the last. You all make it sound like no Democrat has ever had a handicapped child. However, giving the child life is one thing - depriving the chld of his mother for four, possibly eight, possibly 12, possibly even 16 years, is another thing altogether. This little boy is 4 months old, and what, is the VP job suddenly part time? Sorry, but putting yourself forward for a 24/7 job thousands of miles from home when you have a handicaped child not yet out of size two diapers is not my definition of responsiblity. It's putting ambition ahead of family if you ask me. There were plenty of other well qualified candidates - indeed, far better qualified candidates. As I've said elsewhere, this child will have a relationship with someone by 2012, but it won't be his mother.

Governor vs Senator Experience
Before we all go off the deep end either way on this pick let us look at just what experience as a governor and senator really mean.

As Governor of a state that is larger than most countries in this world Sarah Palin had to make decisions on a daily basis that affected thousands of people and billions of dollars or resources. If she made the wrong decision she and no other had to take the flak and responsibility for it.

As a Senator, one of 100, Joe Biden sat on lots of committees and when he voted his vote was only one of 100 on any issue. On Committee he could pick and choose what he wanted to deal with and even themn he was just one of probably 10 or so other Senators who sat on the same committee. His impact on people was nil and if things went badly for the bill he could always blame it on the Republicans or some other entity. Oh, can anyone remember when Joe Biden while sitting on any committee or on a roll call vote actually voted outside party lines?

The bottom line here folks is that as a Governor Sarah Palin is far better prepared for the Presidency than both Obama and Biden combined.
dooz writes: Saturday, August, 30, 2008 3:15 PM
That's the list, all right!
Cisco, I love your list of qualifications. If the last item belongs there, at least you've phrased it as it should be (assuming I understand you): INCIDENTALLY, did I mention she's a woman?

This is the Presidency (with a spare), not Miss Alaska; gender is not an issue, looks are not an issue. Who can do the job is the issue. On that, though, I only see one person in this race who in every area has walked the walk in real-life actual (v. claimed) experience AND SUCCESS, and that person happens to be Gov. Palin. I consider her to be on the right side of every issue AND she has life experience, personal, life-changing choices consistent with her positions. That's what sold me.

Qualified? Do you really need to ask? Have you read the list? My only question is whether she is more qualified than McCain.

Now we can hold our heads up high and be proud to be the party that really values family, women, special needs children (the lesser of these in our community), guns, God, fiscal responsibility (as conservatives have done - she sold the jet????? she can't stop impressing me!) and ......oh my goodness courtesy of McCain. The most unlikely candidate to have been expected to give us back our dignity as a party and as a country. I am so energized I will give 2300 to the McCain-Palin ticket, register voters, make phone calls and even drive voters on election day. We will shutter the glass ceiling once and for all and WITH A DIGNIFIED WOMAN who did not marry into power or earn a prestigious degree. She will do it because she is the 'every day american woman whose dreams reflect our own dreams and those of our daughters and.......give us the hope Obama talks about without any evidence.'. I am crying right now thinking about this moment. As a woman I no longer have to choose between breaking the glass ceiling and voting my values....Governor Palin is our Thatcher. Its in the Bag
Watching the pundits and analysts on TV last night dissect this choice on the Micro-Demographic level was entertaining, but they were all missing the big picture. The libs in the MSM love to talk about the PUMA's and speculate that McCain was going after them - come on, get real folks. Those libs wouldn't vote Republican if their life depended on it (it'd be like me voting Dem - it would never happen). Or, speculating that McCain was shoring up his base - same deal. Big Picture: what McCain did was grab the majority of independents, and with that the election.

Another fact that the libs are forgetting (post convention glow still fuzzing their thought-process)is that McCain & Hussein Obama were dead tied in the polls prior to their party in the mile high city. That is without McCain's VP announcement- watch the polls give McCain a lead (maybe even sizable) after the Repub convention. The Dems are in big trouble with this pick... and wasn't the timing & the secrecy a beautiful thing to watch? What a great, strategic political play. Its a done deal.
Scott the Libertarian writes: Saturday, August, 30, 2008 3:54 PM
Sarah, I agree with that assessment
Thatcher came to my mind too when I caught her bio.

They both looked great at the announcement. I try to take substance over appearance first, but I gotta admit - seeing both McCain & Palin standing there wearing the flag pins on their lapels looked VERY patriotic. It looked "right"...when I see Hilary & BO wearing them it always seems disingenuous.

The dems are in big trouble in the debates as well. Palin is gonna smoke Biden, and McCain will expose Obama for the telepromter reliant guy he is (did you notice Palin didnt even read from notes, much less look at a telepromter??). If I was a Dem decision maker, right now I'd be looking for a way to gracefully get out of the debates.

"Equality"
Much of what I've read in various comments here and on other blog threads in the last day remind me too much of a comment stream to a Fox News article in May concerning Danica Patrick. Too many people fall into one of two positions:
1. "She's too pretty to be a serious racer."
2. "She's too good a racer to be a real woman."

Pathetic. And now those people are apparently over here on Palin's case.

What exactly is it that threatens these people? Can they not accept a person being fully woman and fully accomplished? People, get used to it. It used to be normal and it will be again. In the agricultural/cottage industry era, wives/mothers worked alongside their husbands (and children). Remember Buck's account, in _The Good Earth_, of a woman working in the field, going into the house to deliver her baby, then returning to the field?

New Flash: Woman, as often as men, have brains. Ever hear of Madame Curie? And another flash: Brains and looks are not mutually incompatible (although we see too many pretty women and men who seem to lack something between the ears).

Maria Bartiromo not only is great looking, but her rise in finance required not only intelligence, skill, and talent, but overcoming opposition that males would not have had to face.

Danica Patrick can drive 220 mph and happens to look very good.

Gov. Palin is extraordinarily qualified to be VP, or President, and happens to be a very attractive woman.

I don't know what my great-great-grandmother looked like, but she raised her kids well, took care of her home, and was America's first woman gynecologist. (If you must talk of "vagina" politics, there's the appropriate area for it.)

People (male and female sexists), get used to it. Accomplishment is everything; skin color or shape is nothing. And even attractive women can be accomplished. (And btw, don't mess with my pretty daughters; they'll deck you, and don't mess with Gov. Palin; ditto.)

McCain/Palin Great leaders vs King Obama
Obama is the so-called king who can do everything for everyone. What the heck is a "world class" scool? I worked in the Public School system and what we needed were two married parents with a commitment to their children instead of whose the daddy.

Obama really is about as "one of us" as is Oprah Winfrey, Katy Couric, or any egocentric in love with himself/herself.

America is not about a kingdom, it is a country where the blue collar worker is just as awesome and maybe more awesome than the hotshots dabbling in sexuality, drugs, and the reality of true discontentment.

What they, the Obamamaniacs believe is that everyone deserves to be a hotshot just like them. Sorry, the Designer has a merit system that is based on tests, scenarios, and finding True Happiness on this planet and it has nothing to do with Kovod, glory and fame.

When it is all finished and we stand before the final court, those with nothing but struggle who find love in their fellow man, are far greater than those who need more and more gratification, attention and glory.

Sarah Palin cared little about herself and mostly about her community. Obama thinks he is a god who is the only one who can rescue what he peddles as the pitiful. If a person has another day, another sunrise another sunset and he takes that time to improve his character, he is a great success.

They thought a Tom Ridge with his Homeland Security background would be doubling up on strengths. So now he appoints someone with domestic experience, heavy on experience of the most critical issue of the day - energy, and the pinheads come out in force. Harry Truman went from "precinct to President". Margaret Thacher had NO foreign policy experience. Neither does Obama. Who would you trust to have the best advisors and make an informed decision? It isn't even close!

Is it too late to say me, too.
I, too, was not going to vote for McCain. (I prefered Baldwin, the Constitution Party nominee.) But, Palin is a great choice and I am now giving strong consideration of doing so. However, I will vote for McCain if, and only if, he will pledge to serve just one term.

Also, sad to say, many voters will not be swayed by a candidate's position on issues. They vote strickly on emotion. So... my point is, some will vote for Palin because she is a woman and some will vote against her because she is a woman. And, unfortunately, some will vote for Obama because he is 6.25% black and some will vote against him because he is black!

It is important to note, McCain only needs to get 3-5% of the disaffected Hillary voters to win. Maybe, just maybe, Palin accomplishes that.

Lastly, I have not heard any one mention what church Palin attends. Anyone know?

Sarah who?
Does being mayor of a town of less than 10,000 people and governor of a state of 670,000 people for 2 years actually qualify as "executive experience"? I'm very concerned with the fact that Palin is such an obscure choice- most Americans know little to nothing about her and John McCain reportedly had only met her once before he picked her as his veep nominee. Let's face it- McCain is 72, and his choice for running mate has to be someone America can be confident in. I'm not sure Palin will win over many independents.

Well, VP, a McCain epiphany will be meaningless if we don't get him elected POTUS.

The real question on this issue is: Do you want McCain to change his mind or do you merely want to beat him over the head with it?

Like I said, if McCain loses the election, his "epiphany" won't mean squat. If we get him elected first, then we can beat him over the head with it.

Do you really want a chance to change his mind, or are you enjoying your rage too much? It's up to you.

Dear Critical Bill,

Sarah Palins son is travelling with her because she is breast feeding him. To say that as vice president she would be unable to love and care for her son, or any of her children is absurd. Being a man, I know you will not understand this, but women are quite capable of juggling many responsibilities. That is why Mrs. Palin is the strongest candidate in this race. Also, why do you so casually dismiss this childs father. Fathers are important too, Mr. Bill. This child will be loved and cared for, unlike the millions who have been aborted because they would have inconvenienced their parents.

I seriously doubt that Palins son will ever feel unloved or unwanted.
Sarah Palin and her husband are excellent role models for our sons and daughters.

Going for the jugular
I just finished reading on Polico an article entitled, "6 things Palin pick says about McCain," written by Jim Vandhei and John F. Harris and saw that they listed as number one, "John McCain is desperate," because the battleground state polls are going against him. Besides being false (McCain is ahead in Ohio, Florida, Missouri, and Virginia on RCP's average), the first thing that the Palin pick tells us is that McCain is going for the knockout punch. Instead of choosing a candidate that can help win one or two states (i.e., Pawlenty in Minnesota), McCain is going for a nationwide demographic that has recently favored the Democrats (women), but with which Obama is not faring as well as he should, especially in light of the number of Hillary's angry supporters who do not like him.

Palin has really excited the base of Republicans with her positions and exceptional character. Because of the legitimate possibility that Palin, once known as she is, will appeal to independents, conservative democrats, and unforgiving Hillary supporters, it is not shocking that the Obama camp has hypocritically denigrated her executive experience and gone as far as calling her a Dan Quayle with XX chromosomes (thanks Dee Dee Meyers). Yet, she is more qualified to run this country as President than Obama is!

McCain's pick of a reformer governor who is bipartisan in fighting corruption and refused funds for an unnecessary Bridge to Nowhere shows us that he, not Obama, is the candidate of true change. Can Obama really make the same claim for Senator Biden?

This is a great day to be a Republican and, more importantly, an American.

Palin as a role model
Sarah Palin, as Vice President, will be as good a social role model for this country in promoting positive Christian values as the Clintons were for spreading and promoting liberal amoral degeneracy.

It's amazing that, even though Jindal and Palin have both demonstrated that honest conservative values win elections - big - the GOP establishment still insists on trying to incorporate stupid, wasteful and corrupt liberal ideology.

I've been tracking Palin's career as AK Governor over the past year and thought she would be excellent on the main stage as VP. But given McCain's penchant for 'reaching across the isle', and marginalizing conservatives ala Rove, I concluded that McCain wasn't capable of such an inspired selection. The best we might have hoped for was Romney but frankly, I thought he was determined to lose to an empty suited fool.

There's now no doubt in my mind that he will win in November - and I can no longer, in good conscience, refer to him as McLame.

You're point is excellent - after all the ways liberals destroy children, the ones that make it past their abortion mills, by indoctrinating them with their degeneracy instead of educating them, instilling them with hopelessness, hate for country and religion, etc., they always reserve to themselves the pompous role of social commentator and arbitor of all issues having to do with 'the children' - other peoples' children.

Why Gov. Palin is a game changer:
An NRO reader explains:

There is a difference between feeling like you have to vote for McCain because of support for our troops (and judges a few other pressing matters) and actually being energized to vote for the ticket...

A lot of voters would have been pragmatic without Palin. But it appears that many more will be pragmatic with her, and more, she just softens the blow for many of them and makes them more excited. That’s normal – and it’s a reasonable (and in my opinion, correct) feeling. The verdict is out on Palin, but the fact she has made the base more energetic in no way means the base was wrong to be frustrated and apathetic. Maybe the base had something to do with McCain going with Palin instead of Lieberman. Maybe the base will push McCain to pick Roberts, not Souter. Maybe the base will make sure we actually get border security coupled with a sensible immigration policy instead of token measures on the road to amnesty.

That’s healthy. It shows that conservatives can stick together and influence policy – in a way that was not true prior to the Internet, before there was a Heritage Foundation, before there was a National Review (or NRO), before there was a Federalist Society. We can make a difference, and we are not wrong to demand adherence to basic, conservative ideology. Whether Palin represents that basic ideology is yet to be determined, but the signal is strong that she has a vision rooted not in Washington and big government programs, but in the individual, the family, the community… and that is a vision for America that I want to live in. That is a vision for America I can be enthused about. I just pray she grows into this role and stands strong on those basic, conservative principles that we all are hoping she holds.

And foreign-relations experience? Yes
from an NRO reader:

Alaska is the first line of defense in our missile interceptor defense system. The 49th Missile Defense Battalion of the Alaska National Guard is the unit that protects the entire nation from ballistic missile attacks. It’s on permanent active duty, unlike other Guard units.

As governor of Alaska, Palin is briefed on highly classified military issues, homeland security, and counterterrorism. Her exposure to classified material may rival even Biden's.

She's also the commander in chief of the Alaska State Defense Force (ASDF), a federally recognized militia incorporated into Homeland Security's counterterrorism plans.

Palin is privy to military and intelligence secrets that are vital to the entire country's defense. Given Alaska's proximity to Russia, she may have security clearances we don't even know about.

According to the Washington Post, she first met with McCain in February, but nobody ever found out. This is a woman used to keeping secrets.

She can be entrusted with our national security, because she already is.

Experience...
Sarah Palin doesn't have the experience.

She has no experience:

Covering her own arse.
Pandering.
Lying to her constituants.
Bringing home the pork.
Selling out.
Giving great speeches that don't say anything.
Lining her own pockets at taxpayer expense.
Making back room deals.

She has absolutely no experience in Politics as Usual. On the first day as governor she sold the governors private plane because it was a waste of taxpayer money. That shows she's not a real politician.

But she is a real conservative. And that's why I was one of those with tears in my eyes when she was selected.

Palin Pick May Cost McCain Election
Another way to look at this is that the day McCain picked Palin is the day he lost the election. Don't get me wrong. Governor Palin is a rising star in the GOP, and rightfully so. However, she is manifestly NOT prepared to be president on Day One should something happen to McCain. This premise is nearly impossible to argue against.

McCain had the chance to pick Mitt Romney, one of the world's greatest chief executives. Instead he chose an inexperienced, unvetted, first-term Governor of a small populace state. I think we need to be honest about why McCain picked Palin. Sure, she satisfies the ultra-conservative Christians on the extreme right wing (God bless their misguided souls). But the REAL reason McCain picked Palin is because she is a WOMAN. I have nothing against female politicians. But this particular female politician, as much promise as she has, is NOT ready to be the President of the world's most powerful nation, at least not at this point in her young career.

But it's not Palin's fault that McCain selected her. The blame for that rests squarely on the shoulders of Mr. John Mccain. In his first major decision as a presidential prospect, I think McCain has shown what many of us have suspected all along. He is NOT a good executive decision maker. He shoots from the hip, making emotional and often illogical choices.

I will still punch the ticket for McCain-Palin in November, but I do so out of loyalty to GOP values, not because I think McCain or Palin are the right ones to lead our country in this critical time. We had all better pray that if McCain is elected president he stays healthy and alive. Because the prospect of a President Palin is scary.

Conservatives & I used to be one for 25 yrs., are crazier than even I thought. Not only are you all in Denial about the failure of Conservatism, i.e., largest debts in the history of the world with no benefits to the US… no new bridges, roads, Schools, etc. for our money, just a bunch of lobbyist written policies, inability to win a war with a small country in more time than it took to win WW2, failure to inspire or lead in a positive manner, Supply side economics which added ZERO real growth while adding to the debt, etc. 40% of the entire GDP growth of the Bush/Republican controlled Government was housing related which is all gone. So I repeat no economic growth of any long term value in 8 years while the rest of the world is booming…

THAT IS THE REAL DATA which reflect the policies of Supply Side. How can any of you champion conservatism? Don’t the real world results mean anything???? Or are you all so blinded by right wingnut radio & media propaganda that truth means nothing?

Digressing… Sarah Palin is proof of McCain’s incompetence & the out of step perceptions of the far right who shoved her down McCain’s throat. We all know he wanted Lieberman, maybe Romney, maybe Rudy, maybe Thompson. And any of those picks would’ve been true to the core conservative ideology of merit over affirmative action. Don’t you wingnuts get it, this was the right wings version of Affirmative Action; a woman with no interest in foreign affairs, a supposed working class person who talks about drilling, etc. This is not the stuff of long term leadership.

AND most importantly this pick exposes the right wings complete lack of discrimination. They have no ability to distinguish real leadership, real experience, from their warped marketing dept… You nuts believe your own press!!!

The reason the Obama lack of experience argument never took hold is because he’s spent his entire adult life studying government and constitutional issues. He took on the Clinton machine & won. He was tested for almost 2 years of debate after debate, town hall after town hall, and didn’t make one gaffe. His only problems were never of his doing or his lack of ability. He had a loud mouth preacher & a few Chicago associates that the right wing obsessed over. But no one that listened to him or looked at his record ever cared about the manufactured scandals in the first place. Just when you all impeached Clinton he had the highest approval numbers of his presidency. Same thing here, the right wings evil tactics of destroying people with scandal instead of legitimately winning the debate have only backfired since it was your own congressman who’ve had to step down over one scandal or another.

Admit it or not, you wingnuts never knew the difference between experience vs. vision. Ronald Reagan, same thing. After his movie career fizzled out he spent years doing NOTHING but speaking, thinking & contemplating over deep issues. Politics was his life’s passion. Same thing with Obama. The great thinkers are those who, like Mosses, use their life to open up to new thoughts and blessings, not those who spend all day manufacturing lies & meaningless scandals.

The right wings tactics border on the immoral, just listen to Sean Hannity that man is evil; before he asks anyone a question he lays out a bunch of lies & propaganda… “Congressman, let me ask you this, do you think a man who sat in the pew of an American hater, a man who associates with admitted terrorists, a man who has no experience, a man wants to socialize our great free markets & kill the economy with tax increases… let me ask you congressman, do you really think we good Americans want B Hussein Obama to become commander in chief and surrender in Iraq?”

Do you right wing nuts actually think that’s an honest question? Is that how we should pick our leaders? Allowing our minds to be manipulated by right wing propagandists? Isn’t that what Hitler did, didn’t he have a filmmaker who warped everything just as bad as Sean Hannity. You right wingers need to stop believing the poison of the conservative media figure.

The truth is that there is a legitimate conservative ideology that should be considered. But Rush, Sean, etc. need to be cast aside so that the conservative brand can be taken seriously in the future. As of now, it’s over; people are too smart & have real information on the internet that basically is killing the right wing propaganda machine.

So Ocala’s lack of experience was never an issue with those who understood the obvious depth of this man. Whether U R Left or Right oriented this mans depth cannot be dismissed. But U all did exactly the same thing that was done to Reagan; you all dismissed a brilliant thinker & motivator over issues so trivial that no one ever really cared. No one, that is. Except the already committed right wing choir of haters who actually cannot tell the difference between real fluff which was the marketing campaign that Sean Hannity, Rush, etc. created, and reality

What the right should have done was stop all the negativity & found a good thoughtful candidate who could actually compete. Instead you all picked a man who was once the perfect candidate & browbeat him into not being the one thing that would have won the election, the Real McCain.

This is one of the saddest turns in modern American politics. You right wing crazies took an honest McCain & beat him down so hard that he’s throwing the election away to spite U all. And U all don’t even know it. He knew he had almost no chance of winning after that speech last week by Obama. Face it; it was like seeing a man with an AK47 compared to the emptiness of the right wing that brought a paper gun to the fight. He wanted to select Lieberman or Romney who would have made it a legitimate ticket. But U crazy right wingers put so much pressure on him he decided to give U what U want & throw the election. McCain’s been in politics for almost 3 decades & knows as clear as the sky is blue that this was a HORRIBLE choice if the goal was to actually win in Nov. But U all made him.

Palin is a simple minded nice affable working mother conservative with a backbone. This is PTA material. A former mayor of a town with less than 9K folks!!! No lifelong passion, like Obama or Reagan, with world politics. Or economics. Or anything!!! Alaska has no economy that needs management, it’s all oil. All U do is keep the pumps goin’ & there R no problems. That’s not a dynamic environment to lead!!! Any big US city has more people than the entire state of Alaska. This woman has about as much business being V.P. as my kid sister! But she’s pro life. Wow, that makes someone qualified to lead the world when we have 2 wars going on. You can’t win when you have no case to make while at the same time force your candidate to kiss your right wing behind instead of lead the nation like a man, like Obama appears to be.

For VP you needed to find a compelling figure to compete, not a pro life den mother who’s tough on the corrupt beards in Alaska.

It’s a joke. And U all actually believe the punch line instead of seeing that the election is over. No responsible person could vote for a 72 yr. old cancer survivor with a V.P. of this caliber. The truth is that the true supporters of McCain, not the right wing crazies, R appalled at how irresponsible their once honorable McCain has become.

This is the worst V.P. pick in the history of this nation. Oh, I almost forgot. She’s charming like the housewife next door & pro life. Anyone who actually supports this choice is an incompetent RETARD that causes me to question just how superior democracy really is. In the Middle East they elect Hamas & over here the right wants to elect a den mother whose only credential is her novelty; she’s young, pro life & is perceived to be ellectable. This is affirmative action, not the best person for the job. And you will lose because everyone sees through this shallow political move. Hillary supporters LOVED here as an individual who has been standing up for them for over 16 years. To think any woman, left or right, could replace her is a sign that the right wing doesn’t know the difference between superficially objectifying woman vs. respecting someone as a total human being who happens to be a woman. And Hillary supporters love her. The idea of substituting one skirt for another is offensive for those who really understand progress. This would be the same thing as telling your wife you love her because she has good legs and it makes no difference who she is on the inside.

Apparently Conservatives are just as backwards as their image is. Especially in light of this VP pick which was done for all the wrong reasons. No woman should be on a national ticket unless she actually merits the position. That is progress. Putting an incompetent in charge of the world is a formula that is guaranteed to set back the progress of women 50 years. Whenever that first woman takes the oath, she better be more than ready. Same for an African American. And Barrack just happens to be that man. No other African American man on the national scene could replace him. If Barrack wasn’t on the ticket there would not be filler Black man in his place which appears to be part of the Republican playbook.

Change isn’t something you can pretend or fake. For the right to put up a paper tiger as a symbol of change is shameful, offensive and irresponsible to anyone who really understands and celebrates what change really is. Because ultimately before change we want the best person to run this country. Barrack appears to be both so the left just got lucky. If he wasn’t the best person they had to lead this nation he wouldn’t be the nominee. Honestly, can you think of one other Democrat that can shine his shoes in terms of political knowledge and leadership? No way. That was another mistake of the right, painting him as an empty suit. Big mistake… That’s like telling your boxer before he’s about to get in the ring with Tyson, at his peak, to not worry. The guy can’t really punch. Underestimating any man who can motivate almost a quarter million people to watch him speak is political insanity.

Conservatives really are backwards. Progress is not about image, it’s about moving the human race into the future while genuinely displaying a change of heart. You killed all that with this token vp pick. Palin is no Hillary, no more than a lie is truth.

one more thing, how proud you must be to be able to tells us how wrong we are and how smart you are, barrack has run nothing ever, has no exec. experience at all, but niether does biden or mccain for that matter. The senate is a legislative body who doesnt govern , it writes laws and the president signs them.Sarah was gov. which is an exec. job and two years is 2000 % more then the reast have put together, but who cares about the truth, certainly not dems and now you can be proud of the attacks by you friends on the 16 yr old daughter of gov.palin. You as many of you party seem truly to despise the usa, I say to you and your rev wright and william ayers since this is such a rotten country the is an easier answer, Its called el paos tx or san deigo cal, they both have easy access gates called international borders, if that too hard there are also international gates and terminals at every major airport in america and I for one wont miss any of you idiots at all.

I know the attacks will come but I've already slaughtered any honest debater.
But... Bill O'Reilly’s obsession with the daily kos & all you parrots who want to reference that site at his command… well here's the deal with me...

The Daily Kos is the equivalent of a right wing nut job site & I never read that site, the few times I have it’s all about strategy & other political BS, like the right wing sights. No deep thought, just propaganda.

The Huffington post, while clearly liberal, has a lot of solid writers & is a good place to explore the deeper thinking on the left.

Unfortunately there is no right wing site that is about deep thought or true analysis of political policies and real world realities. Most right wing sites are pure propaganda. I’ve never seen one right wing site honestly dissect why the right blew up the federal budget, or screwed up the war. Sure, there are the apologizers, but no honest look into the corruption of the private contractors that have bilked the taxpayer, in the name of the free market, for more than what a government agency would ever do. Or how corrupt the spending was.

Or why conservatives have an inherent fatal flaw in governing which makes them unfit to serve. Here it is:

Conservatives have, over the last 25 years, convinced themselves that government is not the solution to any problem, that government is the problem. So when they got power they didn’t know what to do… they don’t believe in the specific missions of the dept of energy, the epa, the dept of education, so how could they possible fix them? Or improve them? So Bush appoints political hacks to control these depts. instead of innovative thinkers and problems solvers so they do nothing but waste even more money than the left did with no results because they don’t believe in the mission in the first place.

Joe and all you townfolk dittoheads 2
And in order to run anything, a company, a government, you need to put people in charge that have a passion and belief for what they are doing. You wouldn’t put someone in charge of Microsoft, who hated software, would you? If you did all product innovation would cease & the stock would go to zero. But we elected Republicans who basically did the same thing, they didn’t craft an energy plan (not our business, let the markets do that), they didn’t take climate issues seriously (why admit we have a problem that the left has been pushing). Truth had nothing to do with Bush’s presidency, only politics. The war… give all the contracts out to American companies while indiscriminately killing Iraqi citizens. It wasn’t until Patreous took over that we started treating those people over there like human beings. That ideology was a direst result of conservative thought that dismisses people & the value of human lives regardless of our nationalities. The Republicans really did ruin this nations reputation, economically, geopolitical, etc. You can listen to Prager, Medvid, etc. all day but in the real world the republicans have been horrible stewards of power & irresponsible to the core.

Me personally, I’ve been a life long Republican who was so disillusioned with the failure of the right in power that I started to look deeper & discovered that the right wing of this decade is a marketing campaign. In actual practice the results of ideology (true conservatives) over practical governing (Compromisers & RHINO’s) has been terrible, worse than your favorite president Carters record. Without some compromise nothing gets done. But the right was worse; they really screwed up & governed irresponsibly. PERIOD

The immigration bill, for example, was about the best we could hope for but the right was so fearful of the nuts they shot it down. Reality, we are not going to deport 20 million people, it would be genocide of a culture & many communities here. THEY ARE ALREADY HERE!!! So the bill was a good thing, seal the damm border & identify these folks, live & let live. There is no other possible solution in the real world. But the crazies on the right made such a big deal that the Republicans in congress froze into a body of incompetence with no ability to lead or be honest about our true options. And now we have how many more millions here while still no idea who lives in this country. The right dropped the ball & from there they lost the future because if you can’t make the hard decisions, if you can’t stand up & live in reality, than you don’t deserve to be in public office.

On issue after issue the right is a total failure in actual governing. But the special interests have been served well. The right is no better than the old left. But now we have a new left that is very clear & courageous, even standing up to their base. Did you hear Obama endorse Nuclear power? No Republican has that kind of courage to stand up to its base. And that’s why it doesn’t matter what ideology one has; Obama is simply the only person running with the balls to lead responsibly. McCain, the one time maverick, has melted into a wimp and it’s very sad to watch. And after he loses the election you right wingers will have no one to blame but yourselves, that’s the true genius of his pick.

Douglas and the 5 Million makes U Rich J
Saddleback was a chance for McCain, who I voted for in the primary, to stand up and be a man. He was asked what was rich? But he decided to be a wimp & passify the far right with a joke. We all know that.

But his joke is actually condescending. We have a huge national debt thanks to the right wing of the last 8 years. And the 2003 tax cuts have been proven to NOT stimulate the economy but add to the debt. Under Clinton the top tax rate worked in spite of the right freaking out; it resulted in a surplus with an economic expansion.

That question was a serious attempt to get McCain on the record & he should've been a man and answered it since we need to know what exactly his tax policies & parameters will be.

The sad thing is that he made the moral & responsible call when he voted against those tax cuts in 2003. Now he's a sad image of his former self & made that joke to avoid discussing why he has wimped on on his own integrity.

So Obama put that in his speech to highlight how much McCain has lost his own integrity & to let the real Americans, the middle class know, that he will craft a more responsible tax code & that McCain has no interest in the Average American life or a responsible tax code.

How many of you make more than 250K per year? Why in the world do you support an ideology that is against your own best interests & the long term interests of your coutry? Because bankrupting this nation is what the right wing tax policies are doing. Look at the data, not what Sean Hannity whines about. He''s worth over 50 million & got rich pretending to b a good american! and you all think he really cares about you? U all R naive!

Stop underestimating Obama or painting him out as a liar. He speaks like Reagan using a language that could be considered political poetry while delivering a message that those with open minds will understand.

What you've said is exactly true, which is actually why John McCain's campaign is the first I've actually thought about giving money to. Senator McCain was the Republican the Bush-backers loved to hate until recently (and only when he became their only hope) and was essentially Bush's in-party nemesis during the last eight years. Combined with Governor Sarah Palin, someone whose reputation as a reformer more than willing to go after corruption in her own party I've known about for more than a year and had identified as someone headed for bigger and better things even back then, we Republicans have actually done what I thought might be impossible: position our ticket and the real "reform" ticket, the one with the actual track record to prove it.

Since the "life-long Republican" credentials are suddenly in vogue...

I am
...a life-long Republican.
...reluctant turncoat Kerry voter in '04.
...a straight ticket Republican voter in '06, but held my nose and only voted that way because I knew the Democrats would be even more corrupt and incompetent, and they have been.
...a proud and enthusiastic supporter of John McCain and Sarah Palin for '08.

JOE
I actually have been a McCain supporter for a few years now. Unfortunately for him this election has nothing to do with McCain. I feel bad for him as much as I can for a guy worth over 100 million. Lets be real heres, he'll have a great life regardless of what happens this Nov. thanks to his wife's fortune.

Digressing, This election is about the total failure of the Republican party and the general ideology of conservatism. It has been a total failure, that's rather obvious. We did much better culturally and economically in the 50's, the 60's. One person could work and support a family, send the kids to collage, etc. It's funny how the right reminises about this country in the 50's but forgets that democrats were in charge!!!

I love the McCain of 2000 & don't know who he is anymore. He has even stated that he wouldn't vote for his own immigration bill if it was up for a vote again. That's sad to me.

But more importantly, he is one man. This election is about throwing out the incompetent progress blocking corrupt Republicans. All these lies about the left tanking the economy, being soft on terror, it's all lies.

Obama is one tough son of a pitch! Don't worry about the terroists, this guy is ruthless underneth his nice guy personality & will probably get Bin Laden long before any Republican will. Obama is about action, not keeping issues on the table for political purposes. You'll see.

McCain has the bad luck of being at the wrong place, wrong party & wrong time in history.

The Reality of what we're in for...
Or to put it another way...

Obama is an alpha Black male who will do for politics what Michael Jordan did basketball. A super performer, a good man and a man who will get the job done for his team.

And his team is the United States, not just the democratic party.

This rabid dog partisanship is largely a creation of right wing media that started with Rush. The crazy left, like the daily kos, is just a reaction to the right wing Rush's of the last 20 years. Truth is that this contencous climate was driven by the right, be real, listen to talk radio. All they do is rant & rave with a negative energy. Air America tried but the truth is that liberals just can't listen to negative BS all day so AA has no audience. Conservatives tend to be more negative & drama oriented, liberals just get a headache & tune out, screw their lady or do something more fun than listening to negative jerks on the radio.

Reality check; Rush has publically said he doesn't care who controls the government, his sucess is defined only by his ratings. Anotherwards, he's in it for himself to create this fantasy world of crazy liberals & good american conservatives. He plays to the political drama queen in people & has gotten filthy rich off of all of you.

But in the real world, middle of the road is what makes for the best government. And Obama is middle of the road. That's why there's this agenda in the right wing to paint him as a far left guy.

Did you all watch his speech, he'll finish the real war on terror, get Binladen, set up Nuclear power, give tax cuts to small business & working class, tax cuts to companies to set up shop on our own soil, tells fathers to be more responsible like bill cosby does, wants to reduce unwanted pregnancies, etc.

If Sean Hannity didn't brainwash you all into thinking he's a liberal you would never think that because he's straight down the middle.

Regarding the general macro picture here; Why do all these Conservatives act like they are robots who can't think and sound exactly like a mix of Hannity and Rush?

Honestly, you all don't even know what real conservative or liberal is, you just let hannity define your world and stop thinking for yourselves.

But this isn't a game, running the government has real consequences for those in the military, for those who have health care problems, etc. This isn't a game of your team vs my team.

This is about real problem solving & responsible governing. Anyone who actually thinks Palin was a responsible choice is silly!

JOES IS THE 4 YEARS OLD...

I am not a conservative by any of your definitions but I'm not a liberal either. Too many crazies on both sides. I'm just a guy who looks at reality and makes the best call for my country and here, in 2008, it ain't the Republicans!

They literally have nothing to offer... honestly who cares about illegals, gays, tax cuts for rich people, etc. None of those things affects any real person. Even the rich guy will not be affected, his 401K will still always be lrger than yours and he'll never have to worry about a thing financially. Why do you conservatives care if rich people pay 5% or 10% more, especially in a time of war that you support at 10billion a month!!!

You guys are sad to me, it's as if a large part of the conservative population can't think anymore & doesn't care about responsible government policies.

All you care about is liberal & conservative. How does that help. No one grows in this life if they don't look in the mirror, make necessary changes & work hard. Conservatives are blind to the failures of their own policies & are therefore unable to grow & update the ideology to reality. Ronald Reagan's play book from 1980 was appropriate in it's day. In 2008 we need a new conservative play book that's relevant & effective in the world that is, not the one that was.

One of the requirements is that you provide proof of legal name, date of birth and social security number.
In order to get a social security number, you have to be a legal resident in the US.
And you have to surrender your out-of-country drivers license.

So legal aliens (i.e. legal US residents) can get a AK drivers license.

McCain: The exact right move.
I too was going to have to hold my nose and vote for McCain. In fact, earlier this year, prior to the Ohio primary, I had even written McCain's campaign telling him not to bother running for President, that his unpopular views on immigration were going to ruin him. I cannot begin to tell you how refreshed and amazed and excited I was at McCain's pick of Governor Palin. Wow! And to those detractors who think she is unqualified to be a vice-president, I have two words JIMMY CARTER. Nobody could do any worse than he, and nutty liberals love him. I know Palin is leagues and leagues and leagues above the retarded, lusted in his heart Jimmy Carter. And just so you know, my family voted for Carter and actually received Christmas cards from the Carter White House. I think Governor Palin will be the antithesis of Carter and I can now proudly vote for the McCain ticket.
Rick writes: Monday, September, 01, 2008 10:37 AM
Still reeling
McCain was not my guy in the primaries. He was not my second, third, or fourth pick either. I was prepared to hold my nose and pull the lever for him, simply based on Supreme Court Nominees.

Like many of you true conservatives, I detest some of the bad decisions Mac has made lately. Friday was the absolute BEST day of this whole process for me. Mac could not have made a better decision for veep!

Governor Palin is a dream come true. I had not heard much about her but WOW...she blows me away! The more I learn about this great lady, the happier I become.

What a speaker! Talk about an energetic motivator... Maybe she can motivate McCain to change his views on ANWR and the border.

I am beyond thrilled about this lady. She is the future of the GOP! Way to go, John!
TNconservative writes: Monday, September, 01, 2008 1:20 PM
If you vote for McCain because of this.
Then you were going to vote for McCain anyways.

McCain will not nominate conservative judges. How can you believe that? How is he going to nominate a conservative when we bearly got Alito confirmed with a majority republicans? Its a lie, its an empty promise for your vote. You vote for him then you get nothing. Thats the deal.

Palin is good, but she is a running mate. Runnings mates don't win elections. Running mates are not the candidate. All this shows is that she is what the base wants, not McCain who is the nominee. She completely overshadows him and displays how weak and unwanted a candidate like John McCain is.

If McCain wins it will be the day conservativism died in America. Good thing that probably won't happen, and McCain will probably lose in a landslide.
Rick writes: Wednesday, September, 03, 2008 7:23 PM
What's the alternative?!?
TN Conservative,

What is your alternative to John McCain? You say if Mac wins, it's the end of conservatism. I'm confused by your comments.

I'm not pleased with McCain, but he would be more conservative than BHO. Sorry to break this news flash, but these are the only two choices we have.

I agree that running mates don't win elections. History proves this. I'm just saying that Palin really excites me and Mac has reached out to the base with his pick.

Obviously, Sarah ticks off the media as a true outsider.
